The Hefty® brand is thrilled to partner with the Chicago Cubs and neighbors to keep the Lakeview neighborhood beautiful throughout the 2018 season.
Lake Forest, Ill. – (September 29, 2018) – The Hefty® brand has partnered with the Chicago Cubs for multiple neighborhood cleanup initiatives in 2018, including:
Daily cleanups featuring branded Hefty® Trash Bag bins. Every morning, visitors and residents of the Lakeview community encounter the Cubs Cleanup Crew and one of the six branded Hefty® bins roaming the streets to help keep the sidewalks clean.
Let’s Pitch In! Earth Day event and monthly neighbor cleanups. A group of passionate neighbors approached the Cubs to help organize ongoing cleanups and Hefty® has supported the initiative in a big way. The program launched on Earth Day and Hefty® provided volunteers, branded bags and new branded bins to support the event. More than 100 volunteers picked up trash across 43 city blocks, totaling 1,000 pounds of trash and filling all six Hefty bins to the brim! The event was featured on various news stations and Cubs and Hefty social media channels. Since the April launch, cleanups have continued throughout the summer.
Neighborhood Grounds Crew Recognition. Hefty® and the Cubs recognized two neighborhood “Head Grounds Keepers” who have been most influential in cleanup efforts throughout the year. The recipients were celebrated for their significant contributions before the August 25, 2018, game at Wrigley Field.
These new initiatives are helping drive a strong partnership with the Chicago Cubs as the Hefty® brand joins them in supporting and caring for the community, and will continue collaborating on cleanup initiatives the rest of 2018 and into next season.

The Chicago Cubs - Reynolds Wrap® rain tarp will be used for the 2018 season and beyond. It was introduced in 2015 and on rain days, it is the largest physical “billboard” in the ballpark. Over the last three years, the tarp has delivered more than 450 million media impressions, including the August 2015 highlight when All-Star first baseman Anthony Rizzo jumped on top of the tarp in foul ground territory for a spectacular catch.

Cobb County, Georgia and Boise, Idaho Awarded $50,000 Each to Implement Community Waste Recovery Programs
Lake Forest, IL - January 4, 2018 –
$50,000 grants have been awarded to organizations in Cobb County, Georgia (Keep Cobb Beautiful Inc.) and Boise, Idaho to establish the Hefty® EnergyBag™ program in their respective communities. The program offers an innovative approach to diverting plastics that are not currently recycled – such as chip bags and juice pouches – from landfills and converting the materials into valuable energy resources.
The two winning communities will provide collected materials to facilities utilizing advanced non-combustion conversion technologies, which can generate a liquid fuel, such as diesel. These technologies also have the longer-term potential to generate feedstocks in a closed loop system to produce new plastics, keeping resources in use and at their highest value and thereby helping create a more circular economy.

In its first year, the Hefty® EnergyBag™ Omaha program has collected more than 19,500 bags and diverted approximately 11 tons of plastics, the equivalent to approximately 8.6 million snack-sized chip bags, from the landfill.

The grant application is open to municipalities, non-profits, materials recovery facilities and other qualifying organizations. Dow will provide grant recipients with the blueprint to develop a successful Hefty®EnergyBag™ program and will facilitate planning and implementation. Recipients will ultimately manage the programs and solicit involvement of key community stakeholders.

The grant program builds on Dow’s long-standing relationship with KAB and will be funded through the Company’s Global Citizenship Impact Fund, a unique way to unlock business value while driving social impact. The fund provides financial resources for business-aligned global citizenship initiatives focused on three key impact areas: access to clean drinking water, packaging to prevent food waste and post-consumer waste management.

The first full-scale Hefty® Energy Bag™ program was launched in Omaha in September 2016 and has since expanded from 6,000 to 8,500 households. As of June 2017, the Omaha program has collected more than 13,000 bags of previously non-recycled plastics, diverting more than six tons of waste previously destined for landfills.
The Omaha program is based on the success of a 2014 Energy Bag Pilot in Citrus Heights, Calif. and is a collaborative effort between Dow, Reynolds Consumer Products, Recyclebank, First Star Recycling, Conagra Brands and Systech Environmental Corporation.
