DOW LAUNCHES GRANT PROGRAM TO LAUNCH ADDITIONAL HEFTY® ENERGYBAG™ PROGRAMS FOR CONVERTING NON-RECYCLED PLASTICS TO ENERGY

(NYSE: DOW) announced today it has partnered with Keep America Beautiful (KAB) to award two $50,000 grants for organizations to establish Hefty® EnergyBag™ programs in their communities. The program is an innovative approach to diverting non-recycled plastics – like chip bags and juice pouches – from landfills and converting the materials into valuable energy sources.
“The Hefty® EnergyBag™ program demonstrates Dow’s commitment to advancing a circular economy, a pillar of our 2025 Sustainability Goals,” said Neil Hawkins, chief sustainability officer for Dow. “These grants are essential to growing this important initiative and showing the power of a collaborative blueprint for reducing landfill waste and waste released to the environment, two critical global priorities.”
The grant application is open to municipalities, non-profits, materials recovery facilities and other qualifying organizations. Dow will provide grant recipients with the blueprint to develop a successful Hefty®EnergyBag™ program and will facilitate planning and implementation. Recipients will ultimately manage the programs and solicit involvement of key community stakeholders.
“At Keep America Beautiful, we look for innovative ways to promote and increase recycling in our communities,” said Brenda Pulley, senior vice president of recycling for Keep America Beautiful. “The Hefty® EnergyBag™ program provides a convenient way to collect plastic materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill and offers a platform to promote positive recycling behaviors.”
The grant program builds on Dow’s long-standing relationship with KAB and will be funded through the Company’s Global Citizenship Impact Fund, a unique way to unlock business value while driving social impact. The fund provides financial resources for business-aligned global citizenship initiatives focused on three key impact areas: access to clean drinking water, packaging to prevent food waste and post-consumer waste management.

The first full-scale Hefty® Energy Bag™ program was launched in Omaha in September 2016 and has since expanded from 6,000 to 8,500 households. As of June 2017, the Omaha program has collected more than 13,000 bags of previously non-recycled plastics, diverting more than six tons of waste previously destined for landfills.
The Omaha program is based on the success of a 2014 Energy Bag Pilot in Citrus Heights, Calif. and is a collaborative effort between Dow, Reynolds Consumer Products, Recyclebank, First Star Recycling, Conagra Brands and Systech Environmental Corporation.

New Labels Provide Information on Product and Package Composting
Lake Forest, Ill., – November 30, 2016 – Reynolds Consumer Products is pleased to be a partner in a new labeling standard called “How2Compost” that provides composting information directly on the labels of compostable products. Packaging with the How2Compost label will tell you if it's compostable in industrial composting facilities, where they exist. Some packages with the How2Compost label could even be compostable in backyards. Alongside the label, How2Compost is also working with industry stakeholders to expand and improve composting infrastructure in the United States.
The How2Compost label was developed by Sustainable Packaging Coalition in conjunction with the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), the leading compostable packaging certification program. Every package featuring How2Compost label is either certified compostable by BPI, or contains a certified product so consumers can trust that it has gone through required testing and is third-party verified in accordance with standards related to industrial composting facilities.
Along with Eco-Products, Reynolds Consumer Products is one of the first members of the program and will be using the How2Compost label on selected Hefty® disposable tableware products.

The How2Recycle and How2Compost labels are a next-generation labeling system that brings harmonization and precision to recovery claims on packaging and is designed in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s guidance over environmental marketing claims.
How2Compost can be used seamlessly next to the How2Recycle label on packaging, for instances where a package can either be recycled or composted, or has some components that are compostable and some that are recyclable.

Program could divert an estimated 36 tons of plastics from landfills in its first phase
Lake Forest, Ill., – September 21, 2016, – Hefty Energy Bag, a unique program designed to convert previously non-recycled plastics into energy, has launched in the Omaha area. Plastics collected through the program will be sorted at a local recycling facility and converted into energy used in cement production. The program’s initial phase could divert an estimated 36 tons of previously non-recycled plastic from landfills.
Using Hefty Energy Bags – bright orange bags produced by Reynolds Consumer Products – 6,000 Recyclebank members in the Omaha area can collect previously non-recycled plastics, including chip bags, candy bar wraps and drink pouches. Instead of putting these items in a landfill, residents will now be able to collect these plastics in Hefty Energy Bags and toss them in their regular recycling bins and carts. From there, the bags are sorted at a local First Star Recycling facility and transferred to Systech Environmental Corporation, where the bags and all their contents will be converted into energy to make cement.

Hefty® and the Chicago Cubs to host the World’s Largest Flip Cup Game for Charity at Wrigley Field on June 3, 2016
CHICAGO, MAY 25, 2016 — Hefty® in partnership with the Chicago Cubs today announced the launch of “Hefty Flips for Charity,” a new activation that celebrates the spirit of fun and camaraderie symbolized by Hefty® Ultimate™ Party Cups. On June 3, 2016 Hefty will host the World’s Largest Flip Cup Game at Wrigley Field and donate a total of $40,000 to two charities of the Cubs players’ choice.
Following the Cubs home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 3 at 1:20 p.m. CST, participating fans will converge on Wrigley Field—led by Cubs’ player team captains—to set the world record for the largest flip cup game ever played. The cups will be filled with water, and participants will take turns drinking the liquid and then flipping the cup so it stands upright on the table, signaling the next person to take his or her turn. The first team to finish wins. Officials from RecordSetter.com, an independent, third party validating organization, will be present at the game to witness the historic feat and designate the event with official world record status. At the conclusion of the game, Fans are invited to capture and share the fun on social media using the hashtag #HeftyFlipCup.

REYNOLDS CONSUMER PRODUCTS ACQUIRES NORTH AMERICAN NOVELIS FOIL PRODUCTS BUSINESS

Lake Forest, Illinois, July 1, 2014 – Reynolds Consumer Products LLC is pleased to announce it has acquired from Novelis Inc. its North American foil products business, known as Novelis Foil Products. The business will be operated by a newly formed subsidiary, Reynolds Consumer Products Canada Inc., and will provide a new strategic growth platform for foil and other household products. The business will continue to produce consumer and foodservice foil products, including *Alcan® aluminum foil paper, containers, and aluminum foilware.
The purchase includes foil manufacturing plants and offices in Toronto, Ontario, and Vancouver, British Columbia, office and distribution facilities in Montreal, Quebec, and a U.S. sales office in LaGrange, Georgia. Reynolds Consumer Products Canada Inc. will also continue to operate a third-party-owned warehouse in Mississauga, Ontario. Customer contracts will be honored and employees have been transitioned to the new company.
The Alcan® brand name is a trademark owned by Rio Tinto PLC, and is not included in the purchase. Reynolds Consumer Products Canada has licensed the Alcan® brand name and will continue to produce and sell foil under the Alcan® brand, Canada’s most well-known brand of foil.
